1981
Started mass production of EMI filters to enter the personal computer market.
Delta Story
With the emergence of the personal computer market in the 1980s, Delta entered this field to respond to this trend. The first product for the computer market was EMI filters, making Delta the first EMI filter manufacturer in Taiwan. With the advantages of quality and price, Delta won the favor of customers and is still the main supplier of EMI filters today.
1983
Started mass production of switching power supplies.
Delta Story
Power supplies were the key to Delta's substantial growth in the 1980s.
In the 1980s, most transformers were made of traditional silicon steel sheets, the products were thus heavy and large, with an efficiency of only 50% or even lower. The switching power supplies developed by Delta were not only lightweight but also thin and compact, with a superior efficiency of at least 60% or more at the time.
To enhance product quality, Delta began producing switching power supplies with a surface-mount design in 1985 as the first such manufacturer in the world.
Delta has continued to improve the energy conversion efficiency of its power products. Today, the efficiency of Delta’s products all exceed 90%. In particular, the industry-leading efficiency of Delta’s telecom power products exceeds 98% and the efficiency of its solar inverters is as high as 99.2%.
-
Power supplies demand increased as the demand for personal computers rose. Energy efficiency of products at that time were less than 50%.
-
Taiwan’s population neared 18 million, and the GDP per capita approached US$3,000.
1988
Started mass production of DC brushless fans.
Delta Story
DC brushless fans are products for computer heat dissipation. Due to a huge increase in power supply orders, fans purchased externally were often in short supply, so Delta decided to develop its own fans. Delta continued to improve its designs and manufacturing process, while also developing automated solutions. Delta later made a major breakthrough in technology that significantly enhanced its competitiveness. In 2006, Delta ranked first in the global market for DC brushless fans.
-
The world population exceeded 5.1 billion. As climate change has become a global issue, the UN established the IPCC to collect scientific evidence.
-
Taiwan’s economic development experienced the fastest growth, and the GDP per capita exceeded US$6,000.
Listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange; stock code: 2308.
Delta Story
Delta began to produce switching power supplies in 1983, and its revenue in the year increased by 87.5% compared to 1982. During the five years from 1983 through 1988, Delta's revenue increased nine-fold, breaking the US$100 million mark in 1988. It was then listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange as the eighth publicly listed company in the electronics industry (stock code: 2308).
Invested in the establishment of Delta Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited (DET).
Delta Story
Founded in 1988, DET initially focused on the design and manufacturing of power supply and thermal management products. DET was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) in 1995 and has now become the largest supplier of electronic products listed on the SET. In 2019, DEISG, a subsidiary of Delta, acquired 42.85% of the equity of DET through a public tender offer. Delta and DEISG held a total of 63.78% of the currently outstanding shares of DET, and DET officially became a subsidiary of Delta.
1989
Established the Power Electronics R&D Center in North Carolina to develop high-efficiency power supplies with a high-power density.
Delta Story
In order to strengthen the technical capabilities of power supplies, Delta sought collaboration with academia at home and abroad. It discovered that the best switching power supply laboratory was the Virginia Power Electronics Center (VPEC) at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VT), and the principal investigator was Dr. Fred C. Lee. The collaboration between the two parties became increasingly frequent, and an independent lab "Delta Power Electronics Laboratory" was then set up on campus, and Milan M. Jovanovic was invited to serve as the principal investigator of the lab to lead the development of high-efficiency power supplies with a high-power density. Later, Delta built a lab building in Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, North Carolina, not far from the VT to facilitate collaboration.
1990
Established the Delta Electronics Foundation to promote energy conservation education and cultivate top talents.
Delta Story
To express his gratitude to Taiwanese society for providing a solid foundation for Delta's growth, Mr. Bruce Cheng, founder of Delta, and Delta jointly established the Delta Electronics Foundation in 1990. The Foundation invests in scientific and technological research and development, talent education, and environmental protection, with the aim of giving back to society.
